Maddie Poppe was named the “American Idol” for the recently concluded 16th season of the show. Her journey was not smooth all throughout. Like many other contestants in any given singing contest, she also has experienced the long rough journey. Maddie is actually a songwriter as well. Little did everyone know that Maddie also tried out for The Voice back in 2016. Unfortunately, she did not make it. Well, she “just” made it and took home the title, “American Idol”.
The 20-year-old singer and songwriter became friends with almost everyone which started in their so-called Hollywood week. They get the chance to meet and talk to other singers from across America. More than anyone else, Maddie got the chance to be close with her co-contestant and co-finalist, Caleb Lee. But before singing their final song together at American Idol, Caleb Lee got the chance to say something, revealing what remained a secret for months now:
“You know, Maddie is like my best pal and I’ve known her since the beginning of Hollywood week. You know, she, uhm, she actually happens to be my girlfriend,” Caleb said proudly at the live finale of American Idol.
Judge Katy Perry then slid with her chair and turned and turned like never before! Everyone in the audience was so surprised by the announcement. And as they sang their duet, a medley of “Somewhere over the rainbow” and “What a wonderful world,” the two of them held hands midway and the audience just went wilder.
Now her new single “Going Going Gone” is topping the iTunes chart. Watch their unexpected announcement and amazing duet here:
