There are moments when we feel alone all the time. There are times when we feel like we are the only ones who do not have other people behind our backs. For 30 very long years, Mick Myers roamed around and lived on the streets of California and experienced just that! The 67-year-old man has never got married and did not get to have children. He was homeless for the longest time, and the only person he knew as a family was his adoptive mother. All he did for the past three decades was roam around with his guitar in hand and his passion for music. From there, he got money to push through the day.
With the long years he has been homeless, Deputy Jacob Swalwell of the Alameda County Sheriff’s Department and many others living around, are well aware of Mick’s existence. Many times before, he genuinely warned Mick to stop begging for money, as it was illegal. But one day, he realized that his warnings were not at all helping Mick and that writing a citation would make the situation even worse. He then knew that the homeless man was at his senior age already. Given his age, Mick had no social security and no identification cards at all. The worst thing is that he had no one to turn to. The kind-hearted deputy took all the opportunity to have the homeless man at least an identification card. Even with the deputy’s help, it still took three trips to the DMV for Mick to obtain the necessary ID. The deputy also was able to help Mick obtain Medicaid and receive social security benefits. But there remains what was missing from his life all along, a family. There came a private investigator on his case of finding his birth parents.
Apparently, some 250 miles away, there resides his birth family. Mick could not even believe that he was still able to meet his 85-year-old biological mother. Their reunion became so emotional. God is really good all the time! Mick already has his identification, and more importantly, he has a newly-found family now.
