Romy McCloskey is a costume designer and embroiderer. She specializes in beading which demands great precision. She works on historical replicas to all originals for television, films, and theater as well. With all of Romy’s works, she never once expected to be doing one special designing directly for a living creature.
She never expected that she could save one of the most beautiful creatures the Almighty has created. Though Romy was so vocal that she loves butterflies, she never expected to be mending one’s wing. She posted on her Facebook page that she started raising and freeing the insects by accident after spotting two caterpillars on a milkweed plant in her yard.
“I had no idea what to do, other than to keep them in a glass tank and feed them, and wait. Little did I know there was much more involved.”
After encountering several kinds of butterflies, she then encountered a butterfly with broken wings. She was so devastated seeing the hopeless situation.
“I was, needless to say, heartbroken at the thought of having to put him down.”
After some time posting her predicaments on Facebook, a friend sent her a video on how to save a butterfly with a broken wing. Being a designer herself, she thought that she would just give it a try.
“I figured, since I do so much designing, cutting and putting together of costumes… I could give this a go. And I’m really glad I did!”
Romy’s special patient’s wing was broken from the upper and lower part. It was just three-day-old, and surely it has yet to experience and enjoy its life.
“My heart broke because I thought she hadn’t gotten to fulfill her purpose in this world because she hadn’t gotten to fly outside. Funny how life shows you there’s a plan for everything~ She has given a wonderful gift of flight to this little guy and gotten her chance to fly outside too!”
With just ten ever-available materials, she was able to pull off a very successful surgery. She was so happy seeing the butterfly in flight again. With her help, a butterfly has fulfilled its life’s purpose. We should all make a change today!
“We had a successful flight! A quick spin around the backyard, then a little rest on one of the bushes… then… “like the down of a thistle “… off he flew! My heart soared with him, for sure!”
