When we travel via airplane, the main thing that we do not want to experience are delayed flights. No one wants to wait for sure. With airplanes making all long travels a lot easier, we surely would choose it more than any other mode of commute. But everyone does experience the long waiting many times during those travels.
However, this story will redefine that waiting. Apparently, it is not always the airport’s fault if flights are getting delayed. Sometimes other passengers ruin the planned time of their co-passengers. This was exactly what happened to Kristen Wiley after experiencing a flight delay due to one passenger. But that one passenger was not a usual one, she is indeed special. In fact, she was an elderly woman who was suffering from dementia. But it was not her whining that made Kristen’s day a little bit different. It was, in fact, a patient crew’s way of checking the predicament that made her day. Yes, you read that right. Waiting made her day. Kristen found herself more than half an hour waiting for her delayed Alaska Airlines Flight 748.
“We are currently sitting on a plane, with a 45-minute delay. Why? Because there is an elderly woman suffering from dementia, who is very upset and confused.”
She knew that moment that it was not something that can be easily talked about. In fact, she knew that seeing a man in uniform may have startled the elderly woman a bit. But instead of raising his voice, the man in security uniform eagerly and patiently asked for the elderly woman’s needs.
“The incredible staff of #alaskaairlines is being extremely patient and compassionate, in what can only be a very scary situation for her. Explaining every step, cuddling her dog, working with her husband/caregiver to find the best solution.”
The security personnel and all the crews were exceptionally patient. Kristen’s faith in humanity has been rekindled. It was such an amazing day.
“Alaska Airlines calmly assisted the woman, her husband/caregiver, and sweet pup off the plane, providing hotel and transportation with plans to rest up and try again the following day. Again, incredible compassion given to the both of them while quietly explaining the situation to other passengers.”
Kristen concluded, saying:
“This is how I would want my mother, my sister, my aunt, my daughter, my niece, my friend cared for. ”
