Mother’s day has been an annual tradition all over the world. On this very special day, we get to honor the love and sacrifices that our mothers have shown us. Kids make the simplest, to the weirdest surprises for their mommies. We all are aware how difficult motherhood is, but it is not every day that we get to hear them talk about their experiences with regards to motherhood. Thankfully, Hoda and Savannah had this special talk in celebration of the Mother’s day at Today. Their sharings were unexpected. Their love for their children and their family, in general, resonated in every word they spilled.
But it was Hoda’s revelations that stunned their morning audience. Hoda, together with her husband Joel, is raising their one-year-old daughter. With their princess being adopted, Hoda has a lot of things to share about her experiences. She shared how overwhelming motherhood can be. Being a mom can be a huge of a deal especially if you are working. Hoda was 52 years old already when they adopted their daughter Haley Joy. Many times, it feels amazing and fulfilling, but sometimes it can also be tiring.
“You’re just, like, sitting there and the world’s exploding.”
Thankfully, Hoda had a silent time with Jesus, and she was reminded as to why she decided to adopt her little princess. It was two in the morning, while Joel was not at home, she had a sudden realization that flooded joy in her heart. And she was at peace, finally at peace.
“I remember having a short conversation with God. And I remember saying, ‘I would have begged you for this day.’
Like, this terrible day, I would have begged on my knees for. So I remember I just literally took one breath, put her in the playpen, cleaned up… but I remembered, for a second, having that awareness…
I try to check myself on those rough days. And say, ‘Remember when you were on your knees asking and begging for this moment? Take it.'”
For Hoda and Savannah, motherhood is more fulfilling and rewarding than tiring. It has this ‘something’ that not any type of job can give them. Watch their beautiful conversation here. Happy mother’s day to all amazing moms out there!
